Teacher
Reflection and Artifacts
Coming to the Media Center from a decidedly non-education background, it was a challenge learning how to be a teacher. That said, I really enjoyed the opportunity that FRIT 7765, Clinical Practicum, afforded me in terms of learning how to become a teacher. I really relished the opportunity to be able to teach an English class research skills to find information about their “Monsters of Society.” I really appreciate the genuine collaboration that was facilitated through this lesson. As a new Media Specialist, I look forward to being able to collaborate with teachers in the future school environment where I am hopeful to be employed.
During the actual teaching of this lesson, I believe I was able to learn quite a bit about differentiation. I learned that some students needed to have information modeled or taught to them in a slower or more exaggerated manner, while other students were able to keep up very easily. I understand that patience is a virtue. Further, the old axiom is true that education is not one size fits all. It is critically important that we educators have patience with our students and have patience with educational practices.
The Reading Enrichment Unit was also so much fun and eye-opening. I have not worked with younger children in a very long while. It was so exciting to witness the exuberance Jefferson Elementary School’s Kindergartners had with regard to reading and learning new concepts. I was also very fortunate to learn about the technologies behind storytime (document cameras, microphones, and the like).
